Giving a recharge to courts and stands.

After nearly twenty years of use and multiple refinishes, University of New Haven’s hardwood gymnasium flooring had come to a point where restoration was no longer possible. Milestone was charged with a complete demo/replacement that also included the installation of a new, self-operating motorized bleacher system that is ADA compliant.

Due to athletic programs that utilize the space even during the off season, we had a very limited amount of time to remove the existing floor/bleachers and install the new flooring system that included sleepers and a plywood sub floor. This required up front coordination and planning prior to beginning the project to ensure that once demo began, we could continue uninterrupted until completion to meet the tight deadline. Once the floor and bleachers were completely removed, the slab concrete required some leveling to have it tie in properly to the terrazzo flooring in the lobby – also installed at this time were data and power boxes prior to the sub-floor being installed.

The project began in mid-May as the school year was ending. We installed temporary air conditioning that ventilated and cooled the gym while it was under construction, finished and striped during the summer months. Completed right on time at the end of July, the new flooring and bleachers welcomed back the returning athletes and has set the stage for their continued success while providing every fan the opportunity to root for the home team from the best seat in the house.
